READING, Pa. --
Kutztown University men's track & field sent a field-heavy crew to the Alvernia Winter Invitational, Saturday, led by sophomore Anthony DeFusco (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), who won the long and triple jumps and set the seventh-best triple jump in team history. The Golden Bears also made an impact on the track thanks to Tyeshawn Worrell's (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) victory in the 60-meter dash.

DeFusco is quickly building on a rookie outdoor season that saw him secure top six finishes in the long (fifth) and triple (sixth) jumps at the PSAC Championships. He went 14.23m (46'8.25") to capture the triple jump with a new personal best and moved up from eighth to seventh on KU's indoor top 10 list. The mark also moved DeFusco up to second in the PSAC thus far.

The standout from nearby Douglassville achieved his second conference qualifying mark in the triple jump this season and also did it again in the long jump to win Saturday's competition in a field of 39 competitors with a best of 6.81m (22'4.25").

Worrell came out of the gates flying with a 6.96 in the 60m at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals meet back in December and has shown consistency by running sub seven-second times in all three meets for the Maroon and Gold.

He raced into the finals with the second-best time in prelims (7.09), before putting down another PSAC qualifying 6.98 to win the event over Lebanon Valley's Owen Buhr and Stevenson's Cameron Summers. Worrell was the only sprinter to break the seven-second barrier in the meet.

KU's trio of event wins were complemented by nine other individual top 10 finishes on the day.

Freshman TJ White (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) gained more than two inches in the high jump to tie for second with a PSAC qualifying and personal best of 1.94m (6'4.25"), with teammate Harley Cheatham (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) tied for sixth among 33 jumpers at 1.80m (5'10.75").

Jason Mraz (Edison, N.J./Edison) established a new PR in the pole vault, clearing 4.25m (13'11.25") to take third. First-year Golden Bear Nate Schaeffer (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) was seventh of 20 with a best vault of 3.95m (12'11.50").

White and classmate Ryan Mills (Great Bend, Pa./Blue Ridge) appeared in the top six of the triple jump behind DeFusco. The Reading, Pa., native took fifth in 12.88m (42'3.25"), while Mills was sixth at 12.85m (42'2").

The KU throwers enjoyed success as Jacob Solonoski (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) provided the fifth best mark in the weight throw (13.14m/43'1.50") just ahead of rookie Anthony Helmstetter (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex), whose throw of 13.13m (43'1") signified a new personal best. Jason Staunton (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) placed 10th in the shot put, launching it 11.97m (39'3.25").

Kutztown will travel to Bucknell next weekend for the Bison Open & Multi Friday and Saturday.
