STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Kutztown University men's track & field team was back competing in its second meet of the 2021-22 indoor season, and first of 2022, when KU hit the track at the Spartan Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y., Friday afternoon.
 
It was nearly a month-and-a-half since the Golden Bears last meet, the season-opener at the Fast Times Before Finals at Lehigh University on Dec. 3-4. But rust did not show as they featured five student-athletes achieve Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, four personal-bests and two set top-10 times in program history.
 
Tyeshawn Worrell (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) won the 60m in 6.94, out-running 42 other competitors. It was a personal-best time and was just 0.02 away from the program record of 6.92. Worrell also paced a KU trio of Don Hill (Philadelphia, Pa./Neshaminy) and Savaughn Hebron (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) in the 200m, finishing sixth out of out 40 competitors. Giordanovenchy Cerisier (North Wales, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) ran a PSAC time of 8:58.00 and placed third in the 3000m. TJ White (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) and Anthony DeFusco (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) each jumped their way to PSAC marks. White in the high jump and DeFusco in both the long jump and triple jump. White was fourth and DeFusco finished third and fourth respectively in his events.
 
Matt Salazar (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) crossed the finish line at 2:35.80 in the 1000m, good for third out of 12 runners, ranking him sixth all-time in program history in the event.
 
Jason Mraz (Edison, N.J./Edison) and Nate Schaeffer (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) were 2-3 in the pole vault. Domenick Wallace (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), Logan Iacobelli (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland), Tanner Karycki (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel), Anthony Helmstetter (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) and Jacob Solonoski (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) all had top-10 finishes in their events, along with the 4x400m relay team consisting of Cameron Baumgardner (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin), Darien Clarke (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink), Hill and Hebron, which was seventh.
 
Kutztown is at the Alvernia Winter Invitational in Reading next Saturday, Jan. 22, with action set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
