ERIE, Pa. -- Alexis Perez (Pearland, Texas/J. Frank Dobie) pushed her way into the top 20 of the Michael Corbett Fall Classic at Whispering Woods Golf Club by equaling her career-best round of 80, Monday.
Perez got up and down the par 72 course plying at 5,803 yards in eight over par, slashing 10 shots off her opening round score. The Texan was Kutztown's low scorer in both rounds and jumped 10 spots in the individual standings from Sunday into a tie for 19th. She carded nine pars and birdied the par 3, 156-yard 11th.
Consistency was the name of the game for
Olivia Donnini (Wapwallopen, Pa./Crestwood), who followed up yesterday's 93 with a 92 Monday. Donnini's round included four pars and the sophomore wound up tied for 42nd.
Sophomore
Grace Babinchak (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) also had four pars en route to a final round 95 (+23). She finished 51st, just ahead of
Cecelia Knecht (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester), who tied for 52nd. Knecht, playing in the No. 1 lineup spot for the Bears as she often does, had an uncharacteristically tough tournament, going 95-105. She collected four pars in the final round.
Rounding out the Maroon and Gold's entries was
Molly Agnello (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) with five pars and a round of 108.
The Golden Bears fell behind West Chester to eighth in the team standings after the Golden Rams produced a 357 Monday. Kutztown's two round total was 742 (370-372).
Franklin Pierce, which entered the final round with a one shot lead over host Gannon, extended that advantage to eight shots by tournamen'ts end to claim the title at 627 (312-315). The Golden Knights were runners-up, with Mercyhurst (663), Charleston (678) and Wheeling (696) completing the top five.
Franklin Pierce also claimed the medalist with Kesinee Prukmathakul posting a 4-over par 76 for a two-day total of 149 (73-76). Prukmathakul was a mere 5-over for the tournament.
The Golden Bears will take almost two full weeks before hosting the Kutztown Fall Invitational at Moselem Springs Golf Club Oct. 3-4.
