CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sophomore Luke Hoffman (York, Pa./West York Area) of the Kutztown University men's track and field team made his 2019 debut in style as he earned an NCAA-Provisional mark in the discus to highlight KU Saturday in the final day of the 49er Classic from Charlotte, N.C.

It was the second straight season that Hoffman has recorded a provisional in the discus. The 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Freshman of the Year and National Qualifier finished second in the event behind Terrell Adams out of Division I University of Charlotte.

Juniors Da'Vante Parker (Clementon, N.J./Highland Regional) and Abdul Saad (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico), along with freshman George Weems (Cheltenham, Pa./Upper Dublin) all earned PSAC-Qualifying marks Saturday. Saad had a personal-best throw of 13.60m (44-7.50) in the shot put. Parker's best jump of 12.96m (42-6.25) placed him inside the top-16 in the triple jump. And Weems ran a 22.41 in the 200m. Unfortunately his teammates, Dontez Jolly (Philadelphia, Pa./Academy at Palumbo) and Austin Cory (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown Area (Elizabethtown)) just missed the cutoff for the qualifying time, finishing at 22.60 and 22.76 respectively.

Parker, Jolly, John Ismen (Bethlehem, Pa./Hunterdon Central Regional) and Brandon Smith (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) ran the 4x1 relay for the Golden Bears in a time of 44.45.

Teagan Fortna (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), Mike Campione (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) and Tommy Oliver (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) all posted personal-bests in the 800m, shot put and pole vault respectively.

Kutztown will next compete at the West Chester University quad meet, along with East Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg and West Chester on Saturday, March 30.
