BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Kutztown's doubles team of Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Renato Santos (Seixal, Portugal/Fernão Mendes Pinto) dropped a hard-fought 9-7 match in the opening round of doubles play as the Golden Bears competed in the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men's Tennis Individual Championships on Saturday at Bloomsburg.

Carl and Santos, who were only paired up once last season, showed solid chemistry in taking their match with Nagid Walle and Robin Luetzig of host Bloomsburg to the wire. Walle and Luetzig would prevail, 9-7, however and eventually reached the championship match.

Carl also took part in the singles bracket, but was ousted from the bracket in the first round by Edinboro's Kaio Sacchi 6-4, 6-1.

Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) was Kutztown's other entry in the singles bracket. He fell in the round of 32 as well, 6-1, 6-2, to Mercyhurst's Unai Gonzalez.

The Golden Bears are slated to face Mount Saint Mary's in a scrimmage at home on Saturday, Oct. 12.
