MADISON, N.J. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team earned a 7-0 road victory over Drew University, Thursday, winning all six singles matches and two of three double matches.
The Golden Bears (3-1) opened the match by taking the doubles point.
Nacho Costa (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and
Patrick Young (Belfast, Northern Ireland/) beat the Rangers' Royce Goodman and Nathen Martin, 6-2, at No. 2, answering a 6-1 win by the hosts at No. 1.
Raphael Hoareau Lebon (Saint-Joseph, Réunion/Lycee de Vincendo) and
Luis Lopes (Piracicaba, Brazil/Colegio Saber) secured the doubles point for KU at No. 3, battling past Nicolas Mobayed and Nick Weglinski, 7-5.
Kutztown carried momentum into singles play, sweeping all six flights against the Rangers (0-1).
Dang Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam/) earned a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Arcari at No.1, while Young dominated Mobayed 6-1,6-1 at No. 2.
In the third flight matchup, Costa prevailed over Samir Roberts-Mouzon in a back-and-forth battle 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (3).
KU won flights 4-6 in straight sets, with
Henrique Rocha (Jaticua, Brazil/Escola SEB Maceio) defeating Martin, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4,
Nikita Safonov (Podolsk, Russia/) claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win against Goodman at No. 5 and Lopes capping the singles sweep at No. 6 by topping Ty Gelijns 6-0, 6-3.
Kutztown will compete at the Keystone Courts for the only time this fall when it hosts Davis & Elkins, Saturday, Oct. 3, at noon.
