WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis opened its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule in emphatic fashion on Saturday, defeating West Chester by a score of 8-1.
 
KU won six-of-the-seven matches that were contested, while two others were won by default.
 
Nikolay Kodinov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria/Model High School of Mathematics), 
Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) and 
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) each started their PSAC campaigns 2-0 with two wins on Saturday.
 
After winning their team-best third match together, 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, Kodinov and Nogara Souza combined to drop just three games in singles play at the second and fourth flight, respectively.  
 
Munoz improved to a team best 4-4 in singles play with a triumph in the third flight and would partner with 
Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel) to double up their opponent, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles.
 
David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) won his fifth singles match, 6-0, 6-3, and would win by default at No. 3 doubles with 
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), who also won by default at No. 6 singles.
 
Kutztown returns home to Keystone Courts on Wednesday, March 29 to host the University of the Sciences at 2 p.m.
