HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team came a tiebreak away from winning 2-of-3 doubles matches as it continued play on its Spring Break trip with an 8-1 loss to Charleston (WV) on Thursday.
David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) and
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) held off their opponents at No. 3 doubles, 8-6, to each earn their first doubles win of the season, while
Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel) and
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) fought valiantly to force a tiebreak only to fall short 6-8 in the first flight.
In singles play, it was Perez who won a team-high seven games in a 2-6, 5-7 setback at the first flight.
Nikolay Kodinov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria/Model High School of Mathematics) won four games in a 2-6, 2-6 decision at No. 2 singles.
KU (0-4) wraps up its trip in South Carolina tomorrow with a 9 a.m. match versus Fairmont State.
