Varun Desai won his 99th career match on Wednesday, putting him one away from the century mark as the Kutztown University men's tennis team defeated Milligan College, 8-1.
Desai won his singles and doubles match for the Golden Bears (4-2) on Wednesday, increasing his combined win total to 99. In his career, he has won 49 singles matches and 50 doubles matches.
Kutztown won two of three doubles matches to start the day.
Matt Maguire and
Indi Reverte won their third doubles match of the year with a 8-5 win at the top flight. Following a tough 9-7 loss at No. 2 doubles for KU, Desai and
Ken Beebe improved to 6-0 in doubles play this year with a 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Singles play belonged to Kutztown. Desai won the top flight 6-3, 6-4, Maguire won 6-1, 6-3, and
Joan Oliver Perez won the third flight 6-4, 7-6 for the three most contested games of the day.
Gabriel Nogara Souza,
Rich Lichtenwalner (sweep) and
Filip Lagerqvist allowed a combined eight points in six sets played in their wins.
The Golden Bears wrap up their spring break trip on Thursday night, when they face Ithaca College on March 12 at 6 p.m.
