Complete Results

CONWAY, S.C. – Lanny Buck (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) of the Kutztown University men's track and field team took first place with a NCAA Division II provisional mark in the pole vault on Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina University.

The junior vaulter hit 4.90 meters on the first try to lock up the gold in the 'A' pole vault event. In the 'B' event, teammate Sean Burns (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) took fourth place with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-qualifying mark of 4.30 meters.

Both of the Golden Bears competing in the shot put posted qualifying marks on Saturday. Brendan Lamy (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson)'s 14.17-meter heave landed the junior in 12th place, while sophomore Chris Varichione (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) threw 13.63 meters for 18th place. Additionally, Varichione led the Maroon and Gold in the discus, slinging a career-best 38.84 meters (17th).

On the track, Quran Cason (Philadelphia, PA/Carver E&S) was the final Golden Bear to grab a qualifying mark. The sophomore sprinter placed 20th in the 200 'A' event in 22.34. Fellow speedster Ron Smith (Trevose, PA/Neshaminy) just missed the qualifying time for the 400, but placed 35th in a career-best 50.55. The duo joined Tanner Lipsky (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth) and Richard Gatewood (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) for an 11th-place finish in the 4x100 relay (42.74), and ran with Lipsky and Mychal Robinson (Lancaster, PA/Cedar Crest) in the 4x400, placing 14th in 3:23.00 as the top team of KU's pair in the event.

Kutztown returns to action next weekend, when the team travels to the Richmond Invite on March 28-29.
