COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a dominant week, which included a victory over previously top-ranked Shippensburg, the Kutztown University field hockey ascended to No. 1 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll, released Tuesday.

The Golden Bears improved to 7-0 overall with a 1-0 victory over the reigning PSAC and NCAA DII national champions, avenging last season's PSAC championship game and NCAA semifinal setbacks to the Raiders.
 
Junior Ellie Myers (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) scored the game-winning goal against Shippensburg, while junior goalkeeper Lorelai Lehenky (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) recorded her first shutout of the season with two crucial fourth-quarter saves to preserve the victory.
 
Kutztown carried that momentum into Saturday, controlling Mansfield in a 5-0 victory. Senior Rachel Galasso (Sweet Valley, Pa./Lake Lehman) powered the Golden Bears with the first hat trick of her career, capping a perfect 2-0 week.
 
The Golden Bears have reached the No. 1 national ranking in each of the last three seasons and four of the last five. They spent seven weeks at No. 1 last fall. KU was also ranked No. 1 during the 2024, 2022 and 2007 seasons.
 
Kutztown looks to remain undefeated when they travel to No. 10 Millersville tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
