MANSFIELD, Pa. – Senior
Rachel Galasso (Sweet Valley, Pa./Lake Lehman) recorded the first hat trick of her career, powering No. 2 Kutztown (7-0) to a 5-0 victory over Mansfield on Saturday.
Galasso wasted little time getting the Golden Bears on the board, scoring just 55 seconds into the contest off a penalty corner assisted by graduate student
Olivia Kirkpatrick (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra). She struck again at 9:45, finding the back of the cage on an unassisted goal to give Kutztown a 2-0 advantage.
Galasso completed the hat trick late in the second quarter, scoring off a pass from junior
Marlee Fetrow (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) to give KU a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Kutztown continued to add to its lead in the second half, with junior
Ellie Myers (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) scoring at 37:52 off an assist from
Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen). Freshman
Gwyn DeFazio (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) added the final goal at 43:16 to cap the scoring.
Junior
Lorelai Lehenky (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) earned the start in goal for the Maroon and Gold and did not face a shot on goal. Sophomore
Tess Adolf (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) and freshman
Corinne Bull (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) each saw time in the cage and recorded one save apiece.
Kutztown controlled the offensive play, outshooting Mansfield 24-4 and putting 16 shots on goal to Mansfield's two. The Golden Bears also held a 14-7 advantage in corners.
Kutztown travels to Millersville Wednesday, Sept. 23 for a 6 p.m. matchup.
