No. 25 Bowling’s Bogovic nabs fifth weekly conference rookie honor

COLONIA, N.J. – After helping the 25th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team to a win at the single-day Dr. Robert Cincotta Memorial Invitational this past Saturday, first-year bowler Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) netted the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week honor for the fifth consecutive week, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.

The Mechanicsburg, Pa., native filled 92 percent of frames while averaging 22.6 pins per frame as she competed in the anchor role in baker competition. Her efficiency was on full display across the board, as she struck on 30 of her 50 strike attempts, converted on a team-high 80 percent of spares and toppled 16 of her 17 single-pin spare opportunities while averaging 9.5 pins per first ball across the five matches.

The Cedar Cliff High School product turned up her numbers in the anchor frames, recording a 23.52 tenth frame average and posting a 96 percent fill percentage – both among the best marks of the tournament. The spike in her anchor performances is evident across her five appearances on the season, as she averages more than one additional pin per frame and fills nearly five percent more opportunities than regular frames in baker play.

Bogovic's fifth weekly rookie honor puts her in a commanding lead ahead of all East Coast Conference first-year keglers, while the recognition extends her conference record streak to another week. Her fifth total rookie honor of the season moves her into second place in conference history behind teammate Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York), who secured six such honors on her way to the ECC Rookie of the Year award a season ago.

The big day from Bogovic lifted the Golden Bears (48-27 overall) to a 4-1 record and first place at the Hackensack, N.J., based tournament. The team's outstanding performance in Hackensack, N.J., on the day looks promising for its postseason hopes, as the team will return to Bowling City Lanes on March 20-22 for the East Coast Conference Women's Bowling Championship.

Between now and then, Bogovic and the rest of the Golden Bears are scheduled to appear in two events this weekend. Its regular season will conclude in Delaware with the two-day Northeast Roundup, hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University, on Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, at the New Castle Bowlerama. Additionally, the team is scheduled to appear at the United States Bowling Congress Sectional Tournament, taking place across the same two days, at a location to be determined.
