BLACKWOOD, N.J. -- Freshman
Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) turned in the second-highest traditional average with a 229.2, helping the 25th-ranked Kutztown University bowling team to three wins in four matches as the Wilmington (Del.) Wildcat DII Invitational got underway at Bowlero Turnersville on Friday.
Bogovic, the three-time reigning East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, rolled games of 256, 246, 247 and 202 on her way to All-Tournament Team honors. She opened with her high game of 256 and got support from classmate
Isabella Hopper (Mifflinville, Pa./Berwick) with a 248 as the Golden Bears (40-22) defeated Adelphi, 979-844.
Kutztown got just enough to edge host Wilmington, 872-869, in its second match. There was just a 35-pin split between all five bowlers in head coach
Angela Reynolds' lineup. Bogovic had a 195 and Syndey Snyder posted a 186.
Bogovic finished with three straight 200+ games, including a team-best 246 as the Bears rolled 877 in a bye round. A 247 game from the Mechanicsburg, Pa., native wasn't enough as KU suffered its only defeat of the day against Dominican (N.Y.), 998-937.
The Golden Bears closed strong with a high match score of 991 to beat Holy Family, 991-837. Hopper led three KU bowlers with 200+ games, registering a 222.
Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) followed with a 221 and Bogovic had a 202.
Kutztown totaled 4,656 (186.2 average) to rank fourth of nine teams after the opening day of competition. Bogovic trailed only Newman's Claire Jacobson (229.8) in the individual standings. Hopper ranked ninth with a 194.4 average.
The Bears will face third-place Emmanuel (Ga.) in the first of five Baker matches on Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
