Freshman phenom Bogovic claims conference-record fourth straight weekly rookie honor

COLONIA, N.J. – For a record fourth consecutive time this season, first-year bowler Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) of the 25th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team collected Rookie of the Week honors from the East Coast Conference after a standout weekend at the Wildcat DII/DIII Invitational, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.

Joining her in garnering weekly recognition from the conference is fellow rookie Isabella Hopper (Mifflinville, Pa./Berwick), who was named to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll after a stellar performance of her own in New Jersey.

Bogovic, who has emerged as the go-to option for head coach Angela Reynolds' squad, bowled the second-highest traditional average (229.2) among all bowlers at the Wildcat DII/DIII Invitational, posting three games over 240 pins in traditional play, including a day-high 256 in the team's 979-844 win over Adelphi. She added two more key performances on Friday, rolling a 247-pin game against Dominican and a 246-pin game to lead the team in its bye round. She toppled 1,146 pins across five traditional games and finished as one of just two players with four 200+ pin games on the opening day of the tournament.

The Mechanicsburg, Pa., native was named to the All-Tournament Team after competing in the anchor position on all three days, including helping KU to high-scoring games in all five baker games on Saturday. She concluded the weekend by anchoring the team in six baker games over 200 pins, helping the team secure its runner-up finish at the tournament.

Hopper was another key cog in the Golden Bears' success this past weekend. The Mifflinville, Pa., finished ninth in the individual standings on the weekend, toppling 972 pins for a 194.4 traditional average while sitting as one of just a dozen bowlers to notch at least two 200+ pin games in traditional play.  She recorded a pair of 200+ pin games on the opening day, rolling a day-high 248 to help KU defeat Adelphi while capping off the day with a 222-pin game in the team's 991-837 win over Holy Family. The rookie played well as both the third and fourth bowler throughout the three-day tournament, aiding KU to a winning record on the weekend.

Bogovic's fourth straight rookie honor puts her in elite company among the best East Coast Conference keglers. Her fourth straight rookie honor breaks a tie between teammate Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) (2024-25) and Bryant's Maggie Thompson (2023-24), who each had three such honors in their stellar rookie campaigns. The Cedar Cliff High School product's fourth ECC Rookie of the Week honor puts her in a group of six other keglers with at least four such honors since the conference introduced bowling in 2015-16. Five of the six earned Rookie of the Year honors, with the sixth earning Player of the Year honors the following season. Of the bunch, Brenneman leads the field with six weekly honors in a season.

Kutztown (44-26 overall) capped off the tournament with a second-place finish, as the team emerged victorious in three of four traditional matches and two of its three baker best-of-seven placement matches on the final day of competition.

Bogovic, Hopper and the rest of the Golden Bears will return to the lanes this Saturday, Feb. 21, to compete in the Dr. Robert Cincotta Memorial Invitational, hosted by Molloy University, at Bowler City in Hackensack, N.J.
