LYNCHBURG, Va. – The 4x100 relay team consisting of
Kiana Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg),
Beth Schearer (Springfield, Pa./Springfield),
Raechel Bonner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and
Brook Smith (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) set a new program record and Schearer improved upon her own school record to lead a successful second day, Saturday, at the two-day Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational at the University of Lynchburg.
The relay team won the event in a time of 47.37, just 0.01 faster than the previous record, set by Young, Schearer, Bonner and
Taniyah Lawler (Chester, Pa./Chester) last May. Schearer paced her old record in the 200m of 25.11 by 0.18 and crossed the finish line at 24.93.
Smith also ran a 12.24 in the 100m final, putting her in a tie for third all-time in program lore. Her and Young earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying times in the 100m, joining Schearer and Bonner in the 200m and
Deandra Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and
Mackey Donovan (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) in the 800m.
Sophia Knerr (Columbia, N.J./North Warren Regional) also earned a qualifying time of 11:22.61 in the 3000m steeplechase.
