YORK, Pa. – Making its return to the PSAC Championships for the first time since 2009, the Kutztown University men's swim team turned in four program top 10 times to highlight Monday's opening day of events at the Graham Aquatic Center.
 
Kutztown's day got off to a great start when all three of its entries outswam their pre-meet seeding.
 
Freshman Matheson Bair (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) jumped from 31st to 16th in the 50 free, securing the final spot in the B Final with his personal-best time of 21.39. The Orwigsburg, Pa., product move up to fourth on KU's all-time top 10 from seventh. Bair bettered his time by four-hundredths of a second (21.35) to place 15th in the finals and remain fourth-fastest in team history.
 
In the 200-yard individual medley, RJ Otten (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) registered his first sub-two-minute time of 1:58.72 to rank 27th and set the fourth-fastest time in program history. Teammate Theo Miksa (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) also set a personal best with a 2:04.54.
 
 
The 800 freestyle relay team of Bair, Otten, Colby Orndorf (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Nigel Pizzo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) ended Monday with an impressive time of 7:06.74 to take seventh. It was the third-fastest time in KU history.
 
The Golden Bears are currently positioned seventh of eight teams after totaling 26 points, Monday.
 
Kutztown will have Otten in the 400 IM, and Bair and Otten in the 200 free when action resumes Tuesday with prelims at 10 a.m.
