Pair of school records fall for KU men's swimming on Thursday at PSAC Championships

| By:
YORK, Pa. – Freshman Nevin Shaw (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) established a new Kutztown University men's swimming record while winning the B Final of the 400-yard individual medley and contributed to the Golden Bears' record-setting 400-yard medley relay team as the PSAC Championships continued Thursday at the Graham Aquatic Center.

Shaw started strong by moving up a pair of spots on the top 10 list to third with a 4:13.44 that ranked 13th among 25 competitors during the morning preliminary heats. The Lansdale, Pa., native dropped more than five seconds in the finals to take hold of the top spot in school history with a 4:08.12, while placing ninth overall in the event.

Sophomore RJ Otten (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) also qualified for the B Final, finishing 13th in 4:09.92 for the second-fastest time in team history. Otten was the previous record holder with a 4:10.77 set at last year's PSAC Championships.

Theo Miksa (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) joined the program's top 10 in the 400 IM as well, swimming a career-best 4:26.99 in prelims to rank 10th at KU.

The 400 medley relay of Zach Schurr (Chattanooga, Tenn./McCallie School), Shaw, Otten and Matheson Bair (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) improved upon their school record with a new best time of 3:28.95, topping the 3:30.19 they set back at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational in November. Schurr registered the 10th-quickest 100 backstroke time in school history with a 54.76 leadoff split.

Bair swam a new PR and remained second all-time at KU in the 100 butterfly with a 51.87 in prelims.

Kutztown is seventh in the team standings at the midway point of the championships with 102 points. West Chester (495 pts.), Gannon (239 pts.) and Bloomsburg (229 pts.) hold the top three spots.

The Golden Bears return to the pool Friday morning at 10 a.m. for preliminary heats of the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 butterfly.
