Soccer falls in PSAC title game to Shepherd

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer game dropped its postseason contest on Sunday afternoon to the Shepherd Rams, falling 4-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship at Rockwell Field, finishing as the runner-up in the conference following a stellar regular season and postseason performance.

The Golden Bears (13-5-1, East No. 2) faced an offense-heavy Rams (11-1-6, East No. 3) squad that brought the pressure early and often to one of the conference's best defenses, pushing through with a powerful attack to claim the PSAC title.

In response to a three-goal first half from the Rams, First-Team All-PSAC striker Corinne Morgan (Port Republic, N.J./Cedar Creek) landed a goal in the low corner on a fast break assist from fellow All-Conference forward Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) in the 63rd minute to start cutting into its opponent's lead. The Rams responded, scoring seven minutes later to seal their victory.

Senior defender Skyler Jordan (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) attempted a team-high two shots, while four other Golden Bears attempted a shot on goal.

Shepherd held a heavy advantage in shots (27-7) and shots on goal (12-4), while KU keeper Morgan O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) secured a game-high eight saves. SU also held the edge in corners, 11-7.

The Golden Bears now await its next postseason matchup in the NCAA DII Women's Soccer Atlantic Region Tournament, where the top seven teams from the region face off for the chance to go to the NCAA National Championship in December. The regional tournament seeding and brackets will be announced tomorrow, November 17, at 6:30 p.m, on NCAA.com.
