SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshmen
Carly Louey (Hanover, Pa./South Western) and
Giavanna Marciano (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) each scored a goal to lead the No. 9 Kutztown University women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over Shippensburg on the road Saturday evening in a PSAC East matchup.
Kutztown improved to 10-1-2 overall and 8-1-1 in PSAC play with the victory. The Golden Bears defeated Shippensburg for the second time this season, having previously earned a 1-0 win over the Raiders, back on Sept. 16.
Louey opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing a pass from
Alexis Varela (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) to give the Golden Bears an early 1-0 lead. The goal marked Louey's eight of the season, making her Kutztown's leading goal scorer.
KU continued to apply pressure in the second half, with Marciano adding another goal in the 71st minute to extend the lead to 2-0 to finish out the game. Kutztown finished the match with a 25-5 advantage in shots (11-3 on goal), while earning 12 corner kicks to the Raiders' two.
In goal,
Morgan O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) recorded three saves to secure her second consecutive and seventh shutout of the season. The Golden Bears defense limited the raiders to five shots, including three on goal.
The Golden Bears will return home for Kutztown Soccer Club Youth Night at Keystone Field on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m., against Lackawanna.
