EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Freshman forward
Carly Louey (Hanover, Pa./South Western) scored early in the second half, lifting No. 9 Kutztown University women's soccer to a 1-0 victory over East Stroudsburg on the road Wednesday evening.
The victory marks the Golden Bears' fourth straight win over the Warriors, as Kutztown improved to 9-1-2 overall and 7-1-1 in PSAC East play.
KU applied consistent pressure throughout the opening 45 minutes but could not find the back of the net as the teams headed to the break scoreless.
Louey put Kutztown in front in the 58th minute, heading in a cross from
Maura Day (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) from about 10 yards out.
Giavanna Marciano (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) also picked up an assist on Louey's team-leading seventh goal of the campaign. The Golden Bears' defensive effort limited the Warriors (4-5-2, 3-5-2 PSAC East) to just two shots on goal, both of which were stopped by keeper
Morgan O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) for her fourth clean sheet of the fall. O'Donnell did not allow a goal in either of the regular season meetings with ESU.
Kutztown finished the match with a 13-7 advantage in shots (5-2 on goal), while earning 10 corner kicks to the Warriors' one.
The Golden Bears will stay on the road for another PSAC East match against Shippensburg at 5 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 10.
