BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Kutztown University men's tennis returned to the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships for the first time in 15 years as play got underway, Friday, with singles and doubles action.

The Golden Bears collected a pair of victories during opening and second round championship bracket play.

Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) advanced to the second round in the singles draw with a 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 win over West Virginia Wesleyan's Andres Valverde. The junior from Pachuca, Mexico, will face Edinboro's Guillermo Rodriguez in the round of 32 on Saturday.

The KU doubles entry of Henrique Rocha (Jaticua, Brazil/Escola SEB Maceio) and Dang Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam/) were 6-2 victors over West Virginia State's tandem of Forkane Lebdi and Facundo Campana in the round of 32 before falling to Jorge Perez Diaz and Marcelo Mifano Pinto of Charleston (W.Va.) by a 6-1 score in the round of 16.

Kutztown was also represented in singles by Rocha and newcomer Nikita Safonov (Podolsk, Russia). Each dropped their opening round match in straight sets and will try to work through the consolation bracket.
