KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team dominated all 90 minutes of play at Keystone Field, holding Shippensburg scoreless in a 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division matchup.
An aggressive Kutztown (8-1-4, 6-1-4 PSAC East) put up 27 total shots on the afternoon, but none hit until sophomore midfielder
Katelyn Economopoulos (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) struck after getting past a pair of Raiders (3-7-2, 3-5-2 PSAC East) defenders.
One of the Golden Bears' 16 shots on goal found the back of the net with an
Isabella Rossetti (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) strike in the 68th minute. That tally placed her in a tie for third in conference goals on the season. The score was finalized when forward
Gianna Rivera (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) punched in an assist from sophomore
Maura Day (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) for her first goal in a Kutztown uniform.
The daunting Golden Bear defense held Shippensburg to six shots, all in the first half. KU led in corner kicks (6-2) while also dominating in shots (27-6) and attempts on goal (16-3).
Freshman
Cassidy Howes (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) held steady in the net for Kutztown, saving three shots on frame while weathering a chippy attack from the Raiders. She picked up her fifth shutout performance of the season for the Golden Bears.
The Golden Bears travel to West Chester for a Wednesday matchup with the Golden Rams on Oct. 23 at noon. They will return to Keystone Field to face Bloomsburg on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.
