Peet's eighth-place finish leads Golden Bears at Millersville Invitational

QUARRYVILLE, Pa. -- Freshman Alexis Peet (Greentown, Pa./Wallenpaupack) registered her second-best round of the year with an 87 to tie for eighth as the Kutztown University women's golf team took sixth in Saturday's Millersville Invitational at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club.

Peet played an overall consistent round on the par 72, 5,834-yard course. She was an impressive 5-over at the turn after a string of five straight holes shooting par or better from Nos. 3-7. Peet sank a birdie putt on the par 4, 526-yard fourth.

On the back nine, Peet carded eight straight fives, finishing with a par on 18.

Senior Cecelia Knecht (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) led the Golden Bears with two birdies and six pars on the day, concluding her round one shot back of Peet with a 16-over 88, tied for 13th. Knecht's first birdie came on No. 2, a par 5 playing at 455 yards. Later in the round, she produced another at No. 16, a 292-yard par 4.

Olivia Donnini (Wapwallopen, Pa./Crestwood) provided one of the highlights of the day when she eagled the par 4, 279-yard seventh. The senior later joined Knecht with a birdie on 16 and totaled five pars during her round.

Kutztown got a 94 from Grace Babinchak (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton), who had a birdie on No. 7 and four pars. Rounding out the Golden Bears' lineup was Alexis Verdes (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) with a 109. She collected a pair of pars.

Millersville used top 10 finishes from Taylor Hileman, Charley Kirby and Amanda Wolf to win its home tournament by four shots over PSAC foe West Chester with a 56-over 344. Jefferson (352) placed third, with Le Moyne fourth (354) and Bloomsburg (361) fifth. Kutztown narrowly missed the top five, finishing one shot back of the Huskies with a 74-over 362.

Le Moyne's Mia Avotins captured medalist honors with an 8-over 80, two shots ahead of four-way logjam for second.
