LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Strong performances from Kyle Love (Lansdowne, Pa./Bonner-Prendergast), Jason Mraz (Edison, N.J./Edison), and Nate Schaeffer (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) highlighted a successful first day for the Kutztown University men's track & field team at the Bison Open & Multi hosted by Bucknell Friday.

Kyle Love (Lansdowne, Pa./Bonner-Prendergast) was the highlight of KU's runners on the track. He finished with a 8.50 time in the 60 meter hurdles, which was tied for the tenth fastest time in school history. It's an improvement of Love's 8.76 time in the hurdles from the Fast Time Before Finals meet at Lehigh earlier in the campaign. Freshman Dekai Averett (Douglassville, Pa./Souderton) also finished top ten in the event, finishing in ninth out of 18 with a time of 8.76.

The other highlight on the track came in the distance medley relay. The foursome of Adam Brocato (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall), Port Habalar (Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport), Matt Salazar (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), and Domenick Wallace (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) put on another strong performance, battling to second place in the event with a time of 10:24.34. 

Jason Mraz (Edison, N.J./Edison) and Nate Schaeffer (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) stole the show yet again in the Pole Vault. The duo both hit PSAC Qualifying marks while Mraz finished first and Schaeffer finished second. For Mraz, it's the second straight meet he has captured first in the pole vault, following up a 4.60 meter jump he had last weekend at the Gotham Cup.

Three Golden Bears also took part in day one of the heptathlon events. Cameron Baumgardner (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin), Darien Clarke (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink), and Owen Weaver (Baldwinsville, Pa./C.W. Baker) all competed in the 60 meters, long jump, shot put, and high jump. Baumgardner finished third in the shot put, Weaver finished third in the long jump, while Clarke earned fourth in the long jump. That trio will compete in the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault, and the 1000 meters tomorrow.

The Golden Bears will be back for day two of the Bison Open & Multi on Saturday, kicking off with the 60 meter hurdles in the heptathlon at 11 a.m.
