Golden Bears tripped up at home against Bloomsburg

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Despite a career-best performance from senior Josh Samec (Tresckow, Pa./Hazleton), the Kutztown University men's basketball team (5-13, 5-8 PSAC) suffered a defeat to Bloomsburg (1-16, 1-12 PSAC) 86-78 at Keystone Arena Wednesday evening.

Samec was surgical from the floor, especially in the first half, scoring a career-high 23 points while going 5-of-7 from three-point range. The Tresckow, Pa. native also led the Golden Bears with seven rebounds. 

Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) (19) and Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) (10) were the other Golden Bears in double figures. Wesley Butler (Reading, Pa./Reading) scored eight points in his return to the lineup while grabbing four boards. Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn), Kyle Whippen (Arlington,Va./Westfield), Chase Whippen (Arlington, Va./Westfield), Ryan Glassmacher (Stewartsville, N.J./Bethlehem Catholic (Pa.)), and Kameron Roberts (Townsend, Del./Middletown) were the other Golden Bears to score.

For the second game in a row, the Golden Bears had a strong showing in the first half before struggling in the second. KU shot 52% in the first 30 minutes before going 42% in the second 30 minutes. The Golden Bears got scoring from all parts of the lineup, outsourcing the Huskies 24-5 in bench points. Bloomsburg found success in the paint, outsourcing KU 38-28 under the basket.

The Golden Bears hit the road for their next two contests. KU will face off against Shepherd on Saturday, Jan. 28 in West Virginia. That game will tip off at 3 p.m.
