STAUNTON, Va. -- The Kutztown University women's tennis team evened its season record and snapped a two-match slide with a 7-2 road victory at Mary Baldwin Friday afternoon.
Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom),
Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and
Jess Marks (Allentown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) were victorious in both singles and doubles as the Maroon and Gold won 5-of-6 singles matches and 2-of-3 in doubles.
A pair of 8-1 doubles triumphs sent KU on its way. Lazarchak and Klo won convincingly at No. 3, while
Ava Lewis (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Marks knocked off the Fighting Squirrels' top tandem of Hannah Eastridge and Virani Bhagat.
Kutztown (2-2) won all five of its singles matches before Mary Baldwin broke through with a victory at No. 1 with the outcome already decided.
Lazarchak defeated Bhagat 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4,
Angela Moncavage (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) recorded her first collegiate victory 6-4, 6-0 over Liz Wine at No. 6 and Klo doubled up Izzy Humble 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 to secure the match win for the Bears.
Marks followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Eastridge at No. 2 and
Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) held off Gretchen Lutz at No. 3, 6-4, 6-1.
Kutztown goes for its second win in as many days when it hosts Frostburg State on the Keystone Courts Saturday at 1 p.m.
