CICERO, N.Y. -- Cecelia Knecht (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) recorded a pair of birdies on her way to an 86 and sits tied for 12th, while the Kutztown University women's golf team holds fifth following Saturday's opening round of the Le Moyne Fall Invitational at Lake Shore Yacht & Country Club.
Knecht shot out of the gates with a birdie on the par 4 first and collected another on the par 5 sixth before making the turn at 5-over 41. A couple of back nine pars helped the senior to a round of 86 (+14), where she is part of a five-player cluster in 12th on the leaderboard, two shots outside the top 10.
Grace Babinchak (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) followed up an 88 at Thursday's season-opening Albright Lady Lions Invitational with an 89 (+17) Saturday. Babinchak led all Kutztown players with six pars and currently holds 20th in the field of 45.
Olivia Donnini (Wapwallopen, Pa./Crestwood) made four pars during her round of 94 and freshman
Gabby Cohen (Jeffersonville, N.Y./Sullivan West) did the same in shooting 95 to complete the scoring for KU.
Alexis Peet (Greentown, Pa./Wallenpaupack) birdied the par 3 No. 14 and had a par on the back nine, finishing her second career round in 105.
Adelphi ran out to a five shot lead over Dominican (N.Y.). The Panthers shot 334 (+46). Le Moyne is third at 347, Assumption holds fourth at 348 and Kutztown rounds out the top five at 364 (+76). Saint Anselm (370), St. Rose (389) and New Haven (478) make up spots 6-8.
Final round play is scheduled for Sunday.
