Knerr, D'Amelio earn points in 10k for Kutztown women on opening day of PSAC Outdoor Championships

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- Sophia Knerr (Columbia, N.J./North Warren Regional) and Jaelyn D'Amelio (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, to earn the Kutztown University women's track & field team seven standings points during Thursday's opening day of the PSAC Outdoor Championships at Millersville.

The duo ran nearly in lockstep throughout the longest race of the meet, finding a home in the middle part of the top 10 and holding onto those spots over the course of 25 laps. Knerr claimed the final spot in the top five at race's end with a time of 39:56.50, while D'Amelio was six seconds back in sixth at 40:02.84.

Kutztown also had an encouraging start in the hepthatlon where Skylar Miller (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) is in point-scoring contention in eighth-place, while Elizabeth Mohler (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) threw down a great time in the 100m hurdles to sit well ahead of her pre-meet projection.

Miller was seeded eighth, but she's in line to challenge her career-high of 3,847 points, set earlier this season at the KU-hosted Mondschein Multi, after turning in three personal records in four events. Miller, a Brandywine Heights grad, had a best event finish of fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.51m (4'11.5") for 632 pts. Ironically, that was the lone event where Miller didn't PR.

She set new standards in the shot put (9.79m/32'1.5"), 200m (27.76) and 100m hurdles (17.17).

Mohler is also headed for a career best heptathlon overall. A fellow Berks Countian, from Elverson, she set or tied a PR in all four contested events Thursday. Mohler came out firing, finishing second in the 100m hurdles in 15.72 to earn 749 pts.

With its seven team points, Kutztown currently shares fifth place in the standings with East Stroudsburg after two scored events (10k and hammer). A full day of competition is on the slate for Friday, with the hepthatlon wrapping up first beginning at 11:15 a.m.
