Miller leads the way for Golden Bear women at Mondschein Multi

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Skylar Miller (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) totaled 2,226 points across four events Wednesday to pace the Kutztown University women's track & field team in the gold section of the heptathlon as the Mondschein Multi got underway at Andre Reed Stadium.

Miller, a junior from nearby Topton, was joined by freshman teammate and fellow Berks Countian Elizabeth Mohler (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) (currently 10th) in representing the Golden Bears.

Mohler notched her best event finish and point total in the first event, the 100-meter hurdles. She was sixth-fastest of the 11 competitions with a time of 16.87, earning her 611 pts. Miller took eighth in the opener with a personal best 17.36 (556 pts.).

Consistency kept Miller on the edge of the top five throughout the day. She was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 9.19m (30'2") for 477 pts., registered her highest-scoring event on the afternoon with a seventh-place finish in the 200m (28.05/627 pts.) and took eighth in the high jump at 1.45m (4'9") for 566 pts.

Mohler concluded the day with a 28.82 in the 200m for 568 pts., her second-most in any event.

Miller is just five points back of Delaware's Mayson Light for sixth overall in the Gold section. Annie Gutierrez of Johns Hopkins leads West Chester's Madison James by one point with 2,797. Delaware's Destiny DeBlock is in the hunt, too, with 2,273 pts.

Johns Hopkins also has the day one leader in the Maroon section with Victoria Kadiri pulling out to almost a 400-point advantage (2,589) over second-place Elyssa Pemu of Seton Hill.

The heptathlon wraps up Thursday starting at 9 a.m. with the long jump. The competitors will also take part in the javelin and 800m.
