Knecht and Agnello finish top 10, Golden Bears runner-up at Dickinson Invitational

RESULTS

CARLISLE, Pa. --
Cecelia Knecht (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) registered a team-high 11 pars on her way to a third-place showing and Molly Agnello (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) fired a career-best 84 to tie for seventh as the Kutztown University women's golf team brought home a runner-up finish in the Dickinson Invitational at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course, Saturday.

Knecht was extremely consistent on the par 72 course with pars on Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14, 17 and 18. She was just 3-over (39) going out and shot 41 after the turn tying her season-best with an 80 (+8).

Only Amanda Perez, the medalist with a 2-under par 70, and her Stevenson teammate Casey Oppenheimer (75, +3) were ahead of the North Charleston, S.C., native at the end of the day.

Agnello bested her former career-low round by four shots with an outstanding performance Saturday. The senior from Stroudsburg, Pa., canned a birdie on the par 4 third and went on to post eight pars for a 12-over 84.

Junior Olivia Donnini (Wapwallopen, Pa./Crestwood) and sophomore Alexis Perez (Pearland, Texas/J. Frank Dobie) placed just outside the top 10 in the 41-player field.

The Golden Bear duo shared 11th on the leaderboard, each sporting rounds of 88 (+16). Donnini birdied the par 4 16th and added four pars, while Perez totaled seven pars during her round.

Grace Babinchak (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) also represented KU with two pars and a round of 100, which tied her for 31st.

Stevenson, buoyed by all four of its scoring players in the top seven, outpaced KU by 28 shots for the win. The Mustangs combined for a score of 312 (+24). The Bears finished with 340 (+52) ahead of Gettysburg (357), Franklin & Marshall (370) and host Dickinson (371).

Kutztown will be back in action a week from Sunday when it hosts the Kutztown Fall Invitational at Moselem Springs Golf Club Oct. 3-4.
