ERIE, Pa. -- The Kutztown University women's golf team, coming off a seventh-place finish at Mercyhurst's Evann Parker Memorial, sit in the exact same position after Sunday's opening round of the Gannon-hosted Michael Corbett Fall Classic at Whispering Woods Golf Club.
The Golden Bears combined for a 370 (+82) team score, putting them in a tight mid-pack race when play resumes Monday. Kutztown is four shots behind PSAC rival Millersville (366) for sixth, while eighth-place Ursuline (375), ninth-place West Chester (377) and 10th-place West Liberty (378) are all within eight shots of KU.
Sophomore
Alexis Perez (Pearland, Texas/J. Frank Dobie) was the low-scorer for KU in round one with an 18-over par 90. Perez drained seven pars on the day and is tied for 29th in the individual standings.
Molly Agnello (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) was one of two Golden Bears to record a birdie in her round, needing just three shots to complete the par 4, 328-yard 13th. Agnello totaled a 92 (+20), good for 37th.
Olivia Donnini (Wapwallopen, Pa./Crestwood) was a shot back of Agnello with a 93 (+21) and
Cecelia Knecht (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) posted a 95 (+23). Knecht birdied the par 5, 480-yard 12th.
Grace Babinchak (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) also teed off for the Maroon and Gold, finishing her round with a 104.
Final round play begins at 9 a.m. Monday.
