KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) shared their love for many children that are less fortunate than themselves during Valentine's Day. The Golden Bears' representatives designed Valentine's Day cards and shared supportive messages online to St. Jude's Children's Hospital last week.
There were 242 total cards sent by nearly 50 KU student-athletes, each sending personal messages to bring smiles to the faces of children.
Senior SAAC president
Megan Kirn (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) came across the idea online and was extremely happy with the turnout and support from her fellow colleagues.
"Within the first couple of hours since I brought it up, we had over 60 cards done and sent," said Kirn. "Most athletes did around four cards each and sent a personal message to hopefully cheer up the kids that have to be in the hospital because nobody wants to be in a hospital no matter how old you are."
This was the first activity that SAAC has done this semester. During the fall, they participated in Trunk or Treat, where they provided socially distant delivery of candy to children in the parking lot of the nearby Hampton Inn & Suites around Halloween.
