ROUND 1 RESULTS
FLEETWOOD, Pa. -- The Golden Bear women's golf team placed three players inside the top 11 and sits just 19 shots off the team lead following Sunday's opening round of the Kutztown Fall Invitational at Moselem Springs Golf Club.
Cecelia Knecht (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) led the way for the Maroon and Gold with nine pars and a round of 83 (+13) on the par 70, 5,818-yard layout. Knecht is currently fifth in the individual standings, eight strokes off the leading pace set by West Chester's Alexandra Lowder (75).
Kutztown's only birdie of the day came from
Olivia Donnini (Wapwallopen, Pa./Crestwood) on the par 5, 420-yard seventh. The junior added four pars to finish with an 88. Sophomore
Grace Babinchak (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) also had four pars in carding an 88. The two Bears are part of a four-way tie for 11th.
Alexis Perez (Pearland, Texas/J. Frank Dobie) totaled five pars and was KU's final scorer with a 94. Teammate
Molly Agnello (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) drew into the lineup as well, shooting 97 with two pars.
Three Golden Bears entered the tournament as individuals, with
Alivia Miesowitz (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) registering a 102,
Kayla McMahon (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) a 103 and
Alexis Verdes (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) a 108. Miesowitz made her collegiate debut, while McMahon played for the first time this season.
West Chester's Elizabeth Rafferty had the highlight of the day with an ace on the par 3, 192-yard 13th.
Alvernia jumped out to a four shot lead over West Chester with a 334 behind top-five efforts from McKylie Boreman (79, second) and Yupha Muzyka (80, third). The Golden Bears are third at 353, with Jefferson (355) and Millersville (356) in close pursuit.
The tournament is scheduled to wrap up Monday beginning at noon, weather permitting.
