KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Megan Kirn (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) closed out her sophomore season for the Kutztown University women's track & field team with a 17th-place finish in the javelin throw at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships on Saturday.
Kirn got progressively better throughout preliminary round throws, starting with a toss of 130'3" (39.71m). After improving by more than 10 feet on her second attempt, the Philadelphia native topped out at 143'1" (43.61m) on her final throw.
Kutztown's record holder in the event at 151'7" (46.20m), Kirn had Division II's 16th-best throw heading into the meet.
Morgan Ash of Missouri Southern won the javelin title with a throw of 168'8" (51.41m), holding off Northwest Nazarene's Ellie Logan (165'2"/50.34m) and Washburn's Shelby Edwards (162'9"/49.62m).
Kirn's appearance at nationals was the first of her career and first by a KU woman in the javelin since 2002.
