BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's track and field team secured a total of six first-place finishers and four new Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks at the Greyhound Invitational on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Moravian University.
Brandon Raguz (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) highlighted KU's performance on the day with a sizeable victory in the pole vault, clearing a career-best height of 16-6. This height improves Raguz's fourth-all time mark in school history and is both an existing NCAA provisional mark and existing PSAC qualifying height.
Kutztown's dominance was on display in the field events as Raguz was joined in field victories by
Luke Hoffman (York, Pa./West York Area),
Mike Campione (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) and
Kyle McLaughlin (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack Area). Hoffman took home first place in the discus, throwing a distance of 166-3 to hit on his existing PSAC mark.
Campione claimed the gold in the hammer throw, notching an existing PSAC mark of 162-9. McLaughlin secured the top spot on the podium with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing a season-best height of 6-8.25, of which ranks seventh all-time and improves his existing PSAC mark. McLaughlin joins Raguz as the second Golden Bear to reach an NCAA provisional height as his 2.04m leap (6-8.25) is the minimum threshold for the NCAA qualification in the high jump.
On the track,
Steve Maine (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional) secured his spot in the postseason in the 5000m, finishing in 15:08.12 to take first with a new PSAC qualifying time.
Xavier Gutierrez (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) added to the Maroon and Gold's day in the distance events, notching a No. 1 finish in the 3000m steeplechase (9:55.42) to improve upon his existing PSAC mark.
Other Golden Bears to punch their postseason tickets today were
Dontez Jolly (Philadelphia, Pa./Academy at Palumbo) in the 400m (50.24),
Da'Vante Parker (Clementon, N.J./Highland Regional) in the triple jump (48-8.25) and
EJ Umoh (Bear, Del./Appoquinimink (Lock Haven)) in the hammer throw (142-1).
As a team, the men's track and field program recorded a combined 18 PSAC qualifying marks, both new and existing, and 15 season-best marks.
Some of the members of the men's track and field team will compete in the Penn Relays at UPenn's Franklin Field in their next competition, scheduled for April 27-28 beginning at 9 a.m. both days. Those not competing will participate in the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg on Saturday, April 28.
