KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University and Edinboro University men's tennis teams played a multitude of close matches Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Golden Bears, the Fighting Scots came out on top in all nine matches in their 9-0 loss in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at the Keystone Courts.
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) won a team-high nine games at No. 5 singles. Set one went to tiebreakers at 7-5 in favor of Edinboro, while the second set was also decided by two games at 6-4.
Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) won seven games at No. 3 singles in a 6-3, 6-4 final, as did
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) at his new flight of No. 2 singles in a 7-5, 6-2 setback.
In doubles action, two of the three matches were 8-6 finals. At the top flight, Nogara Souza and
Nikolay Kodinov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria/Model High School of Mathematics) won six games, as did Carl and
Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) at No. 3 doubles.
The Golden Bears (2-9, 2-2 PSAC) remain at home in the midst of their five-match homestand. They host Bloomsburg University on Tuesday, April 11 for a 2 p.m. match time.
