KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team won 2-of-3 doubles matches to open its non-conference match against Philadelphia University on Monday, but the Golden Bears fell 6-3 at the Keystone Courts to open its final week of the regular season.
At No. 1 doubles,
Nikolay Kodinov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria/Model High School of Mathematics) and
Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) played a thrilling opening match and won 8-6. It marked the pairing's fourth win in their last six matches. Nogara Souza was a double-winner on the day, also winning his singles match at the No. 3 flight in tiebreakers – 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
At No. 2 doubles action,
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) and
David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) won in extra points Monday, taking a 9-8 final decision. It is their second straight win together.
The Rams went on to win 5-of-6 singles matches.
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) won a set in his match at the fifth flight, taking the first set 6-3 before falling 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The Golden Bears wrap up their regular season on Wednesday, April 19, at Shepherd University beginning at 3:30 p.m.
