KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's tennis team is preparing to host Philadelphia University for its final match of the season and Senior Day on Monday, April 17, beginning at 2 p.m.
Two seniors on the Golden Bear roster,
Alyssa Konas (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and
Kady Wuagon (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), will take to Keystone Courts for the final time in their impressive collegiate careers.
Konas has had noteworthy performances in her three-year career with the Maroon and Gold, both in the classroom and on the court. She currently has won 14 career matches in singles, along with a 17 matches in doubles action.
Her record on the court earned her distinction as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Athlete of the Week in the midst of her freshman campaign on March 18, 2014. Konas went on to earn a place on the 2016 All-PSAC East Singles Second Team, along with becoming a Dean's List honoree in the fall of 2016.
This season, Konas has won two singles matches, most recently prevailing 7-6, 6-4 in No. 1 singles and assisting Kutztown in its two victories against East Stroudsburg on April 15. She also has four wins on the year in doubles play alongside her partner, freshman
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg).
She is set to graduate in the spring with a degree in criminal justice.
Wuagon has also made notable impressions as a PSAC Scholar-Athlete over the course of her three-year career. She currently holds a 7-16 career record in singles competition and a 2-4 record in doubles play.
Over her career, Wuagon has been a five-time Dean's List honoree. Her junior campaign in the 2015-16 season earned her distinction as a PSAC Scholar-Athlete, along with a D2ADA Academic Achievement Award.
This season, she earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 5 singles, helping the Maroon and Gold in their most recent win against Harford Community College on March 23.
Wuagon will receive a degree this spring in elementary education.
Despite Senior Day being the Golden Bears' (2-11, 0-5 PSAC) last match of the 2016-17 season, the team looks to gain valuable experience for a strong return in the fall.
