KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team experienced a tough setback, falling to West Liberty University 8-1 in its non-conference matchup Saturday at the Keystone Courts.
In a difficult doubles competition setup, the Golden Bear duo of
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) and
David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) managed to post the team's sole victory of the day, bouncing back after a loss in the first flight to defeat West Liberty 8-3 in No. 2 doubles.
With one win after doubles competition, West Liberty made sure it would be the Maroon and Gold's sole victory of the day and swept KU in singles action.
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) had posted an impressive performance in the sixth flight of singles play Saturday, falling in a close 6-4, 6-3 setback.
Munoz won a noteworthy five games in a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles.
The Golden Bears wrap up a stretch of home matches when they face off against Philadelphia University Monday, April 17, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Keystone Courts.
