KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Despite a loss by the narrowest of margins to Bloomsburg on Tuesday at the Keystone Courts, 5-4, the Kutztown University men's tennis team had already clinched a berth in the upcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.

With the three seed on the line on Tuesday, Bloomsburg won one of the two singles matches to go three sets to secure the narrow victory.

KU (2-10, 2-3 PSAC) will be the No. 4 seed in the PSAC Tournament, which takes place on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22.

Nikolay Kodinov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria/Model High School of Mathematics) and Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) both won both of their matches on Tuesday, including pairing for their first No. 1 doubles victory together – a thrilling 9-8 triumph. The duo improved to a team-best 6-6 together with the result.

Kodinov also won his first No. 1 singles match of the year in thrilling fashion, bouncing back from a second set loss to prevail 6-1, 6-7, 6-4. His five singles wins this season are second most on the team.

Nogara Souza's singles win was his first at the third flight this season as he swept his opponent 6-2, 6-4.

Kutztown's other victory on the afternoon came at No. 3 doubles, with Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel) winning their second straight match together 8-3.

David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) was on the wrong side of two exciting matches that could have swung the final outcome in KU's way had he pulled off a victory.

He first teamed with Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) in a tough 7-9 setback at No. 2 doubles before falling in three back-and-forth sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-10, at No. 4 singles.

Munoz also fought valiantly in his singles setback at the second flight, where he fell 4-6, 5-7.

Kutztown will gear up for the PSAC Championships with the first of its three remaining regular season matches on Saturday when it hosts West Liberty at 11 a.m.
