KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team dropped a non-conference matchup against University of the Sciences Wednesday at Keystone Courts by a close 5-4 margin.
The Golden Bears (1-7) took 1-of-3 doubles competitions to open the day. Despite falling in the first two flights,
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and
Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) proved to be a successful pairing, earning the Maroon and Gold an 8-5 victory heading into singles.
Three KU players earned victories in singles competition with the Sciences.
Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel) brought about the team's first singles win in the first set of the second flight, 6-4. He returned to take the victory 6-4 after falling in the second set.
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) continued with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) capped the team's wins on the day, also winning 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Kutztown returns to action this Saturday, April 1, when it hosts Millersville University, beginning at 11 a.m. at Keystone Courts.
