KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University men's tennis players competed in several close matches Thursday, but the Golden Bears fell 5-3 to Harford Community College in KU's spring home-opener at the Keystone Courts.
In doubles play,
David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) and
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-5. The top flight went to tiebreaker, as KU's
Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel) and
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) won seven games but dropped the match, 9-7.
In singles play,
Nikolay Kodinov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria/Model High School of Mathematics) won eight games but dropped a 6-4, 6-4 match at No. 2 singles. Munoz won in tiebreaker at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.
Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) rounded out KU's winners Thursday, winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
Harford won the final two singles matches, and the No. 1 flight did not finish due to darkness.
The Golden Bears open conference-play on the road on Saturday, March 25, at West Chester University beginning at 1 p.m.
