KUTZTOWN, Pa. - As Spring Break approaches, both Kutztown University's men's and women's tennis teams prepare to kick off its 2017 spring season. The teams will compete in several matches in Hilton Head, South Carolina from March 13-17.

The men's team will face off against Augustana (March 13), Hillsdale (March 15), Charleston (March 16) and Fairmont State (March 17). The women's team will compete against Slippery Rock (March 15), Belmont Abbey (March 16) and Fairmont State (March 17).

Looking for its first win of the year, the KU men competed in both singles and doubles matches in the fall. In singles, freshman
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) is coming off of a 2-0 record. Also having wins in singles matches are
Nikolay Kodinov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria/Model High School of Mathematics) and
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)).

For doubles teams, Munoz and
Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel) held a record of 1-1. In addition, Kodinov and
Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) had one win, holding a record of 1-2.

Perez, along with three other players participated in the PSAC Individual Championships in the fall. Perez made it to the Quarterfinals, falling to Bloomsburg's Dhir Gala.

Holding a record of 0-3 this fall, the women's team is looking for its first win of the season. In the fall, the women challenged Roberts Wesleyan, U. Sciences, and Caldwell at Keystone Courts. The team is led by seniors
Alyssa Konas (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and
Kady Wuagon (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy). The team has six returners and also welcomes two freshman,
Alicia Pursell (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg Area) and
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg).

In singles, Wuagon has one win, holding a record of 1-2. For doubles teams, Konas and Capoferri hold a record of 1-3. In addition, Konas and Capoferri each had the opportunity to compete in the PSAC Individual Championships.

After the team returns from spring break, KU will play at home for the first time this spring on Monday, March 20, against Harford Community College at 2:30 p.m.
