KUTZTOWN, Pa. – In its final tune-up before next weekend's Franklin & Marshall Invite, the Kutztown University women's swimming team claimed first-place finishes in seven different events on its way to a 96-51 triumph against the Juniata College Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
KU completed a one-two finish in the 400-medley relay to begin its day, with the foursome of
Madi Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern),
Bridget Perdoch (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury),
Kara Jones (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) and
Claire Frank (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) posting the gold medal time of 4:15.48.
Lindsay Brenneman (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) secured the Maroon and Gold's second first-place finish of the meet in the next event, narrowly missing a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying mark in the 1000-free, touching the wall at 11:10.40. In her next event, Brenneman threw down her second first-place time of the day, swimming a time of 1:04.90 in the 100-fly.
Kutztown's success continued into the third event, which saw
Alison McLaughlin (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn), Perdoch and
Katerina Parowski (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) sweep the medal stand, claiming the top-three spots in the 200-free.
In the 50-free, Frank collected her third PSAC-qualifying time of the 2017 season, finishing with a time of 25.65, adding this event to the 100-back and 200-IM to her postseason repertoire.
Jocelyn Seidt (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and
Meredith Heydt (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury (Lehigh Carbon CC)) were responsible for another one-two finish for the Golden Bears, claiming gold and silver in the 200-IM with times of 2:26.50 and 2:38.48, respectively.
Parowski notched the final gold-medal time of the day for KU in the 100-free, completing her swim in 58.09 with teammate
Alexis Cable (Thomasville, Pa./Spring Grove (Mansfield)) trailing just behind with a time of 1:00.54.
With the victory clinched for the Maroon and Gold after the first seven events, Kutztown's times in the 100-back, 500-free, 100-breast and 200-free relay did not count towards the final team score.
Despite that, the collection of Bleiler (1:03.85), Jones (5:35.09), Louden (1:13.31) and the relay team of Wise, McLaughlin, Bleiler, Parowski (1:47.38) each finished with the top times in these events.
The Golden Bears now look to next weekend, in which they will participate in the regular season's highlight-The Franklin & Marshall Invite in Lancaster from Nov. 17-19. Often, this is considered the peak of the regular season, in which many of KU's swimmers will record season-best times.
