KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team won three matches on Saturday in a 6-3 season-opening setback to Roberts Wesleyan College on a hot day at the Keystone Courts.
Kutztown (0-1) took 1-of-3 doubles matches to open the day. At the second flight,
Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) and
Nikolay Kodinov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria/Model High School of Mathematics) turned in the first doubles win of the year for the Golden Bears. In their first career pairing, the duo won 8-4 to keep hopes alive for a team win heading into singles.
Kodinov won two matches on the day with a 6-3, 6-2 singles win at No. 4 singles. Freshman
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) won his first career match at KU with a 6-3, 6-2 No. 6 singles win.
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) won the first set at the second flight of singles action, but fell in a tiebreaker.
Kutztown returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28, on the road at the College of New Jersey beginning at 2 p.m.
