CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Kutztown University seniors
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown),
Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose),
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and
Emma Sullivan (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) were honored by the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (LVAIAW) on Tuesday as the Outstanding Athlete of their respective sports for the 2015-16 season.
The LVAIAW is made up of seven institutions; Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Moravian College, Muhlenberg College and Kutztown University.
Behm was named the 2016 Outstanding Field Hockey Athlete of the Year in the Lehigh Valley, as well as KU's Female Senior Athlete of the Year at its annual All-Sports Banquet last week.
The 2015 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Year put together one of the most prolific offensive seasons in KU field hockey history during her senior season as she cemented herself in the KU record books in multiple statistical categories.
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) was named All-PSAC for the third time in her career and became a two-time All-American. She started in all 19 of KU's games, recording 22 goals (second all-time), including eight game-winners, and nine assists (eighth). For her career, Behm put up astounding numbers of 56 goals (third), 17 assists and 129 total points (third).
The Kutztown native led KU to a 12-7 overall record in the 2015 season and the team's first appearance in the PSAC playoffs since the 2009 season. The Golden Bears increased their win total in each of Behm's four years as they went from five wins in 2012, to 12 last season.
Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose) was named the 2016 Outstanding Women's Soccer Athlete of the Year in the Lehigh Valley, the second consecutive year that a KU player earned the award. Sam Costello earned the achievement last season in her final season at Kutztown.
The Lavallette, N.J. native became just the third player in school history to be named a four-time All-PSAC performer after her stellar senior season. Malanga also became a three-time All-Region midfielder after recording six goals and 13 points in 2015. She capped off her career with 22 goals (sixth), 10 assists (ninth) and 54 points (eighth).
Malanga started in 74 of her 76 career games, fifth-most starts in school history, and helped lead KU to four consecutive double-digit win seasons and PSAC Tournament appearances.
The third honoree for KU was
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), the 2016 Outstanding Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Year in the Lehigh Valley. Stringer concluded her phenomenal KU career with 357 kills (eighth in school history) and 156 total blocks (second) in her senior season.
Stringer was named to the All-PSAC East First Team for the third time in her career and also was honored as an All-Atlantic Region performer. She is the just the third player in school history to post more than 1,000 career kills and 400 blocks.
The Yardley native concluded her KU career fourth all-time in kills (1,116), fifth in attack percentage (.298), fourth in total blocks (416) and tied for fifth in career solo blocks (87).
Emma Sullivan (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) was Kutztown's fourth honoree as the 2016 Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year in the Lehigh Valley. She won her first career PSAC title in the 2016 indoor season. She shattered her own school-record in the pole vault with a mark of 12-10 at the NCAA Indoor National Championships, finishing seventh and earning All-America status. She is a communication design major and has a 3.90 GPA during her career.
The Phoenixville native is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honoree and was named to the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District team. She is also a five-time Dean's List recipient and three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete. She earned the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award for the 2013-14 season.
For her athletic career, Sullivan is a five-time All-Region performer and four-time All-PSAC performer. She has placed in the top-five at the PSAC Championships in the pole vault in each of her seven appearances.
