KUTZTOWN, Pa. – In front of an energized Thursday night crowd inside Keystone Arena, the Kutztown University women's volleyball team notched a 3-0 victory over the Georgian Court Lions for their second straight win and third of the last four in front of the home crowd.
The Golden Bears (5-5 overall) trailed for a total of three points throughout their straight set victory, as they took care of the Lions (4-8) by scores of 25-13, 25-20, 25-17 for a swift end to the night. 10 service aces and six blocks helped the Maroon and Gold to victory, while the team's 41 kills kept Georgian Court off balance for most of the night.
Kutztown got off to a roaring, 8-1 start in the first set, a stretch they followed with another five-point run to make it 13-2 in the game's first 15 points. After the Lions mustered up some nice plays to challenge KU and draw within ten, junior
Paige Skinner (Placerville, Calif./Ponderosa) notched a pair of service aces in a five-serve run that put the Bears in position to score the last two points and claim the opening set.
It was more of the same for the Golden Bears in the final two sets, as another Skinner service run broke the teams from a back-and-forth battle in the second set, while stellar rallies went the way of Kutztown to allow
Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) to continue her own service run on the way to a third-set win.
Bogovic tallied a team-high 15 kills for KU, while sophomore
Emma Baldridge (Damascus, Md./Damascus) led the way in both assists (28) and digs (13). Freshman right side hitter
Lauren Montgomery (Norristown, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy) tallied 4 blocks on the evening, and Skinner managed nine kills and five aces in another strong effort for the California native. Libero
Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) had 11 digs and six assists after coming off a 45-dig effort over the weekend against Slippery Rock.
The Maroon and Gold now holds its first two-game winning streak since September of 2023, while it returns to .500, a point they have not held this late in the season since 2023. KU now moves to a perfect 3-0 record at home against the Lions, with all wins coming by way of 3-0 scores.
The Golden Bears look to finish its road non-conference slate before the end of September as it faces Lincoln (Pa.) and Goldey-Beacom on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Wilmington, Del., before traveling to Philadelphia to face Jefferson on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m.
