HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team opened competition for its spring break trip on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 9-0 decision to the University of Charleston.
 
The Golden Bears (0-3) won five or more games in the top two doubles flights, but fell 8-6 and 8-5, respectively.
 
In singles action, Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) won a team-high seven games, but fell 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Rich Lichtenwalner (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) won six in a 6-3, 6-3 loss at the fifth flight, and David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) won five in a 6-3, 6-2 defeat.
 
Kutztown returns to action Wednesday morning, March 9, at 8 a.m. against Tusculum College.
