ERIE, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team opened up this season's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule on Friday night with a 9-0 loss at the hands of Mercyhurst University.
 
Mercyhurst opened doubles play with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, but Kutztown fought to the finish in its remaining two flights. The top two doubles flights were decided by a combined four points. The Lakers took the top flight 9-7 and the second 8-6.
 
Filip Lagerqvist (Sundsvall, Sweden/Skvaderns Gymnasieskola) went to a tiebreaker set at No. 3 singles. After dropping the first set 6-3, he rallied with a 6-4 win before falling 10-1 in the final stanza.
 
Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) won nine combined games in a 7-5, 6-4 setback at No. 2 singles.
 
The Golden Bears return to action Saturday night, March 19 at Edinboro University beginning at 7 p.m.
